Literature published by A.A. World Services, Inc. is a resource for the recovering alcoholic and for anyone who wants to find out about Alcoholics Anonymous, its history, and how it works. Description of Request:

“AA’s far-flung Twelfth Step activities, carrying the message to the next sufferer, are the very lifeblood of our AA adventure. Without this vital activity, we would soon become anemic; we would literally wither and die.

“Now where do AA’s services—worldwide, area, local—fit into our scheme of things? Why should we provide these functions with money? The answer is simple enough. Every single AA service is designed to make more and better Twelfth Step work possible, whether it be a group meeting place, a central or intergroup office to arrange hospitalization and sponsorship, or the world service Headquarters [now the General Service Office] to maintain unity and effectiveness all over the globe.

“Though not costly, these service agencies are absolutely essential to our continued expansion —to our survival as a Fellowship. Their costs are a collective obligation that rests squarely upon all of us. Our support of services actually amounts to a recognition on our part that AA must everywhere function in full strength—and that, under our Tradition of self-support, we are all going to foot the bill.”~ Bill W., October 1967 Grapevine ~ Taken from the A.A. Guidelines on Finance from N.Y.

    Corrections Committee, Panel 76

    December 7, 2025 by District 04 MSCA 09

    Panel 76 Chair: Vacant
    email: Corrections@LongBeachAA.org

    Corrections Committee Workbook

The purpose of a corrections committee is to coordinate the work of individual A.A. members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to incarcerated alcoholics. Bringing meetings and literature into facilities, raising awareness of the Corrections Correspondence Service (C.C.S.) among “inside” and “outside” A.A. members, and helping inmates transition to a local A.A. Community through Pre-release contacts are just some of the activities corrections committees support. (From AA.org website)

    1. Suggested sobriety: 2 years.
    2. Attend at least 6 Area Corrections meetings per year and report to the district on activities.
    3. Form, maintain, and facilitate a District 4 Corrections Committee made up of GSRs and interested members.
    4. Encourage GSRs to promote Corrections Correspondence with their groups.
    5. Coordinate with Harbor Area Central Office Liaison to utilize the use of Harbor Area for receipt and relay of correspondence for members who prefer not giving out the personal home addresses.
    6. Pre-Release Contact
      • Be the contact point for GSO for inmate placement in prerelease contacts for inmates being paroled in District 4.
      • Obtain contact information and names of groups willing to take in parolees into their groups upon release.
      • Send inmate information on groups willing to take them in as members after release and provide personal contact information when provided.
    7. General Service Office – Maintain open communications with the corrections Desk at the General Service Office (GSO).

The Responsibility Statement of Alcoholics Anonymous

I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.

Copyright © by AA Grapevine, Inc.

      • Written in 1965: It was authored by former AA trustee Al S. specifically for the 1965 International Convention in Toronto. • Conference Approved: The General Service Conference affirmed its exact spirit and wording in 1971 and again in 1977, noting that the declaration should never be changed. • Bill W.'s Endorsement: It was famously recited by AA co-founder Bill W. alongside 100 other members at the Toronto convention to emphasize the fellowship’s global duty to suffering alcoholics.

      Core Meaning

      • Global Outreach: The phrase "anyone, anywhere" expands the member's sense of duty beyond their local group, extending it to the global fellowship. • Action-Oriented: It takes the principles of AA's Twelfth Step—which calls members to carry the message—and turns them into a personal pledge of availability. • Personal Ownership: The opening and closing lines emphasize that the success and continuity of AA ultimately rely on the individual commitment of each member.
