Corrections Committee Workbook

The purpose of a corrections committee is to coordinate the work of individual A.A. members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to incarcerated alcoholics. Bringing meetings and literature into facilities, raising awareness of the Corrections Correspondence Service (C.C.S.) among “inside” and “outside” A.A. members, and helping inmates transition to a local A.A. Community through Pre-release contacts are just some of the activities corrections committees support. (From AA.org website)

  1. Attend at least 6 Area Corrections meetings per year and report to the district on activities.
  2. Form, maintain, and facilitate a District 4 Corrections Committee made up of GSRs and interested members.
  3. Encourage GSRs to promote Corrections Correspondence with their groups.
  4. Coordinate with Harbor Area Central Office Liaison to utilize the use of Harbor Area for receipt and relay of correspondence for members who prefer not giving out the personal home addresses.
  5. Pre-Release Contact
    • Be the contact point for GSO for inmate placement in prerelease contacts for inmates being paroled in District 4.
    • Obtain contact information and names of groups willing to take in parolees into their groups upon release.
    • Send inmate information on groups willing to take them in as members after release and provide personal contact information when provided.
  6. General Service Office – Maintain open communications with the corrections Desk at the General Service Office (GSO).

Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC [Panel 70])

October 3, 2020 by District 04 MSCA 09

Panel 70 Chair: Carly A.

Your District 04 CPC Committee can bring the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to professionals in your community, helping them understand how and why AA works. Members of CPC Committees inform professionals and future professionals about AA – what we are, where we are, what we can do, and what we cannot do.

CPC works at establishing better communication between AA’s and professionals, and to find simple effective ways of cooperation without affiliation. Non-alcoholic professionals may work and/ or meet the alcoholic where AA is not known or present.

Through professionals, alcoholics may be reached who might otherwise never find the program. Moreover, they may be reached sooner with the help of informed non AA professionals who may cross paths with the alcoholic through their chosen profession.

Professional communities include that of medicine, education, law, corrections, the judiciary, the military, the clergy, and social work. In this way, still suffering alcoholics can be reached where, under other circumstances, may fall through the cracks.

CPC is vital and rewarding Service work. District 04 is here to support your CPC vision, your goals and your efforts.
